So my first job on my license was as an oiler on the school's training ship to help move it from Castine, ME to Bayonne, NJ where it was undergoing its 5 year dry docking. We left at night and proceeded down the coast, socked in by heavy fog all the way. It made sleeping difficult and the only interesting view was at the end when we got into NY harbor. It was good to be on a ship after being off a vessel for so long and it was nice to have my first job as one with no real responsibilities on a ship I was intimately familiar with.
