Updates on life and stuff.

Ok, so its been awhile again. I just finished up my second hitch on the WestPac Express, I had a good time and a lot of stuff got done since we didn't really do many trips. Some old crew left and will be missed and some new crew members came and are starting to get into the swing of things. We had a couple of awesome cadets this time and I hope they have the best of luck with the rest of their schooling and maybe come back and sail with us when they get their paperwork. I'm hanging out in Houston right now visiting one my best friends who's in training at ABS to be an Offshore Installation new-build surveyor. Getting to peruse some of her books is making me jealous, its really interesting stuff. Hopefully this will give me motivation to finish my schooling. I'm heading up to Maine on Sunday and hoping to start finishing the last three classes I need for my systems degree independent study like so I can keep my sweet job and finish my degree.

Yeah

So I apparently update this as often as my journals. Since the last time I posted: I decided to leave Chouest for something more interesting, my girlfriend decided to leave me for something more interesting ;-) I'm in the process of getting a new job, doing paperwork and what not. I'm really excited about it and I'll give more information once I'm on the job so I don't jinx it. Also made it to Minnesota with the scouts to do some winter camping, the photos are up. I've done some other stuff and had an opportunity to visit some of my friends I haven't seen in awhile. Anyways, I'll try to update more often, but I don't think anyone reads any of this anyways so...

Work & Play

So I've just finished my first hitch working for Edison Chouest Offshore. I'm working aboard a 320' Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV). It been a good experience so far, it has a good crew and its been a great boat to learn on since I came aboard during a bit of a concentrated repair cycle. Overall we have nine engines aboard, 2 Bergen Main engines, 3 Cat generators, 3 Cat thrusters, and the ever present Detroit emergency generator, so there's always something to be working on. I just talked to my friend Pete on the interweb today, he's also taking a job with Chouest and they told him we'd end up on the same boat. I'm really looking forward to working with him. This whole deal should be pretty much fun.
I'm hanging out in Maine right now visiting my girlfriend and other friends. Its been pretty much fun but I'll be traveling south again in the next few days. We'll see what happens. I've been enjoying my time off but I need a project to work on so hopefully my webpages will get the needed attention that they need. I've also been able to spend some much appreciated time reading.

Sandvox

So I think I have decided to go with the Sandvox software package to at least maintain this site where I am hoping to update it more frequently. It doesn't have quite the level of control that I would like for MerchantMariner.net where I hope to put a comprehensive list of articles about ships, and the work that is involved in designing and operating them. For WilliamMoser.com I'm still on the fence. My original plan for the site was to have an on-line resume and I'm not certain if the pre-determined layouts would work for that plan. I've played with it a bit and think it may work but we'll see what happens. I do like the ease of writing and posting to my websites which have been lacking since I have great plans but lack the concentration to make a site that matches what I have in my head. My first experience at coding websites was with Allaire's Homesite back in 2000 at PGSIT at Drexel. It was a marvelous program, it let you write the code then click on a tab to see how it would appear in a browser. Alas, it was a windows computer and we only ever had macs at home. When I decided to try to do the web page again I tried a few programs read some books, my normal slow adaptation of an open ended personal project. I just recently graduated and waiting for my paperwork so I can get a real job, I've had a bit more free time.
